Reptiles & Amphibians Week- Day 1!

First day of camp is going great...bugs, slugs, frogs and mud! What's not to love?! We kicked off Reptiles and Amphibians week by getting down and dirty in prime frog territory, Blithewold's Rock and Water Garden. Bright and early, us eager campers headed to the ponds to see how quick we could be with a net. Because of low water levels and lots of lily pads, frogs were hard to find, but camouflage was no match for our keen camper eyes! As soon as the first frog was spotted, Miss Jillian was knee deep in the mud, collecting our new class pet. Frog eggs, water bugs and -gulp- a leech or two were also spotted in the water. It was time to head back to our "lab" to inspect what we had found! Each camper took a turn examining water samples under the microscope and we were all amazed at what could not be seen with the naked eye alone!

Not only are we learning all about frogs and toads, but we are learning all about each other as well! Many new friendships are "blossoming" with get to know you activities and recreational sports. Together we created a list of "camp rules"and right at the top was RESPECT-for people, plants and animals! This rule has set the tone for our week together as friends, playing and learning together among Blithewold's lovely grounds!
