Week 2 Art In The Garden

Week two is off to a great start! These talented young artisans all have a smile on their faces as the work away with scissors, pencils, paste and paint!

As you can see, mosaic making demands full concentration from the campers. These mosaic picture frames turned out exceptionally well, as the campers put a lot of TLC into each one! No two were the same, each representing the campers personal style.

Our sketch books are filling right up as we practice drawing nature.

End of Week 1 :(

I guess time flies when you are having fun, because week 1 came and went so quickly!
On the last day at Reptiles and Amphibians Camp, we had Camp Jeopardy, to see how much we remembered throughout the week! Congratulations to the SNAKE team who claimed the title of Blithewold Jeopardy Champions!


We were so lucky to have a WONDERFUL group of campers this week! Each and every one of you added something very special to camp and we couldn't have hand picked a better group! At Camp Closing Ceremony, Miss Jillian passed out 4 awards to some of our campers who went above and beyond!

Day 4

Today we had a very special visit from Save Bristol Harbor! Three volunteers came to teach us about watersheds, water pollution as well as the sources of pollution, so we can be more conscious young citizens! Save Bristol Harbor taught us in a fun way! They brought a model of a town that looked just like Bristol! The volunteers from Save Bristol Harbor helped us to see that there are a lot of ways we pollute our water without even thinking about it.

We sprinkled "fertilizer"(sprinkles), "pesticides"(more sprinkles), salt, "animal waste"(chocolate sprinkles, which the campers ended up sampling) "oil" from cars and "industrial sludge" (chocolate syrup) all over the town, to demonstrate how there are pollutants all around us. Then came a big rainstorm (watering can) and all the pollution washed from the town, down into the watershed. All the colors of the sprinkles made the water turn into a very un-appetizing shade of brown. The campers had an "aha!" moment as they realized that what we do in our yards and in our towns also effects the water we drink and swim in.


After learning about the beautiful body of water we are trying to protect, we took a trip down to the beach! We brought our nets and a bucket and collected all kinds of specimen! Fish bones, moon jellies seaweed and shells all made there way back to camp for further examination.

Yup, we like to get dirty...and we're proud of it! Crafting at camp can sometimes get messy, but that is half the fun!

REGAL REPTILES

Ever wonder what your camper did all day when they came home and "couldn't remember" what they had done? Well...here is a little memory jogger, just in case, but I am guessing that by some of these expressions, today was a pretty incredible-and unforgettable-day! Today Regal Reptiles brought in lots of creepy crawly friends for us to meet! Toads, tortoises, snakes, skinks and the grandaddy of them all...a crocodile! There was not a not a coward in the bunch as the campers eagerly slung constricting snakes and snapping scorpions apon themselves (well, except for myself, but I got to duck behind the camera). Not only was it fun, but I am certain we ALL learned a thing or two! Did you know that it is IMPOSSIBLE to tell the age of a tortoise? Or that a crocodile only needs to eat 15lbs. of food PER YEAR?!
